Cyclopentasiloxane & Cyclohexasiloxane Blend (D56)

Blending cyclopentasiloxane (D5) and cyclohexasiloxane (D6) in cosmetic and personal care applications offers several advantages due to their complementary properties. Both D5 and D6 contribute to a smooth, silky feel and enhance the spreadability of products on the skin and hair. However, their different viscosities allow formulators to fine-tune the desired texture. D5 provides a lighter, non-greasy feel, while D6 offers a richer, more emollient texture. D5 is more volatile and evaporates quickly, leaving a non-greasy feel. D6 is less volatile and remains on the skin or hair longer, providing a longer-lasting silky feel and enhancing the substantivity of other ingredients. By blending D5 and D6 at certain ratio, the tailored sensory experience is achieved. 

While D5 and D6 have been widely used in cosmetics, there are ongoing discussions and potential restrictions on their use due to environmental concerns. By using a blend with a lower overall concentration of each component, formulators may be able to meet evolving regulatory requirements.
